Rotate PDF
Rotate PDF pages left or right in your browser. Fix page orientation, then download a new PDF copy.
Upload a PDF and rotate individual pages 90°, 180°, or 270°. Apply changes to all pages or selected pages, then download a new copy.
After the page assets load, the selected PDF is read and rotated in your browser. Your original file stays unchanged.

Why PDF Pages End Up Sideways (And How Rotation Fixes It)
PDF rotation is one of those things you never think about until you need it. Then it's incredibly frustrating. A scanned document comes out sideways. A phone-photographed receipt saves upside down. A landscape spreadsheet page sits in the middle of portrait text pages.
Here's the good news: rotation usually does not re-encode page images. It changes the page rotation angle, which tells the viewer how to display the page. In standard PDFs, text, images, and links are usually preserved, but check important files before relying on the output.
The selected PDF is read and rotated in your browser after the page assets load. This tool does not upload the selected PDF to an iForge Apps server.
Rotation Quick Reference
| Rotation | What It Does | When You Need It |
|---|---|---|
| 90° clockwise | Turns right, top moves to the right side | Page scanned sideways (text reads bottom-to-top) |
| 90° anticlockwise | Turns left, top moves to the left side | Page scanned sideways (text reads top-to-bottom) |
| 180° | Flips upside down | Page fed into scanner the wrong way around |
What this means for you: Not sure which direction to rotate? Try 90° clockwise first, that is the most common fix. If it makes things worse, rotate twice more or go back to the original and rotate left.
What This Tool Changes in the PDF
Rotation is different from cropping, resizing, or converting. This tool loads thumbnails so you can see each page, stores your chosen rotation for each page, then saves a new PDF with those page rotations applied.
| Part of the File | What Happens | What to Check |
|---|---|---|
| Page order | Kept exactly the same | Use Organize PDF if pages also need moving or deleting |
| Page orientation | Changed by 90°, 180°, or 270° on pages you rotate | Open the download and confirm every sideways page now reads naturally |
| Text and images | Copied into the new PDF rather than edited as separate objects | Review PDFs with forms, comments, or unusual layers before sharing |
| Original file | Left unchanged on your device | Keep it until you have opened and checked the rotated copy |
The 5 Most Common Rotation Problems
Scanned documents from a feeder
Automatic document feeders (ADFs) can't always detect page orientation. If you fed pages sideways, every page in the PDF will be rotated 90°. Fix: select all pages, rotate once, done.
Phone camera scans
Phone cameras embed rotation metadata (EXIF), but not all PDF converters read it correctly. The result is a PDF where pages appear sideways even though the original photo looked fine. A single rotation fixes it permanently.
Mixed landscape and portrait pages
A report with portrait text and landscape tables or charts. You only need to rotate the landscape pages, select just those pages and rotate individually.
PDFs exported from design software
Tools like InDesign or Illustrator sometimes export pages with unexpected orientation, especially when the artboard doesn't match the intended print size. Rotation corrects the display without altering the design.
Print-ready files with the wrong orientation
Some printers ignore PDF rotation metadata and print pages as-is. If your prints come out sideways, saving a newly rotated copy may make the orientation clearer for that printer.
Worked Example: Fixing a Mixed Scan
Marcus scans a 16-page supplier pack. Most pages are portrait, but pages 6 and 7 are landscape tables, and page 12 is upside down because it was fed into the scanner the wrong way.
- 1.Load thumbnails: he uploads the PDF and waits for all 16 pages to render in the grid.
- 2.Fix the tables: he rotates pages 6 and 7 once so the table headings read left to right on screen.
- 3.Fix the upside-down page: he rotates page 12 twice, giving it a 180° turn.
- 4.Check the count: the page count is still 16, so nothing has been removed or added.
- 5.Download and review: he opens the new PDF before sending it, because printer drivers and PDF viewers can display rotation differently.
Rotate vs Organize: What's the Difference?
Rotate PDF changes how pages are displayed, their orientation. It's a quick fix for sideways or upside-down pages. The page count and order stay the same.
Organize PDF changes which pages are in the document and their order, adding, removing, and rearranging. If you need both (fix orientation AND rearrange pages), rotate first, then organise. Working with correctly-oriented pages makes it much easier to spot what goes where.
Batch Rotation Tips
Select all, rotate once. If every page is sideways (common with batch scans), select all pages and rotate them together instead of fixing one at a time.
Fix orientation before other edits. Rotate sideways pages before adding watermarks, page numbers, or annotations, otherwise those elements will appear at the wrong angle.
Checks Before Printing or Filing
Open the downloaded copy, not the browser preview
The thumbnail grid shows your intended rotations, but the downloaded PDF is the file that matters. Open it in the PDF reader you normally use before you send or print it.
Rotate before adding fixed-position text
Page numbers, watermarks, and signatures are easier to place after orientation is final. If you stamp a sideways page first, the stamp can land in an awkward position after rotation.
Watch files with forms or annotations
Most ordinary PDFs rotate cleanly. If a file contains fillable forms, comments, stamps, or unusual embedded layers, check those elements in the downloaded copy before relying on it.
Use page numbers after rotation
When the document will be cited in a meeting, bundle, or printed pack, rotate first, then add page numbers so the numbers sit in the expected corner.
