    How the Countdown Calculator Works

    This tool calculates the exact duration between right now and your target date, broken down into every unit of time you'd want: years, months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes. It's not just a simple day counter, it handles the complexity of months with different lengths, leap years, and the cascading differences between date units.

    You can also enter a past date. Instead of counting down, the calculator switches to counting up, showing you how much time has elapsed since that date. Handy for anniversaries, "time since launch", or figuring out exactly how long it's been since an event.

    How accurate is the calculation?
    It's accurate to the minute, using the date-fns library which correctly handles leap years, varying month lengths, and all calendar edge cases.

    How many days until Christmas?

    Does it account for daylight saving time?
    It uses your device's local time which includes DST adjustments. The day count remains accurate across DST transitions.

    Why do months show a different number than weeks?
    Because months vary in length (28 to 31 days). 3 months might be 89 or 92 days depending on which months. The calculator shows each unit independently.
    Can I count down to a specific time, not just a date?
    Currently the tool accepts dates only. The countdown is calculated from the current moment to midnight on the target date.
    Is any data stored?
    No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Your dates and event names are not saved or transmitted.
